Organized by Goethe Institut and HIBA Art Project
Movement workshop with Rafaële Giovanola
from COCOONDANCE (Germany)
June 4, 1pm – 3pm
Sima Performing Arts, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai

How to describe and share dance? With this workshop, the CocoonDance Company gives an insight into their language of movement and their way of working and invites all interested parties to a physical training and creative exchange.
How can a choreographic language emerge, how can it be presented and shared? CocoonDance pursued this question with a movement vocabulary based on the movement material of their pieces. From this so-called glossary work, a special way of working has developed, which at the same time proves to be a successful way of understanding – not only in the exchange with professional, but also with non-academic dancers. What began as a by-product of productions such as MOMENTUM, VIS MOTRIX and HYBRIDITY has become a core element of movement research, a new form of dance mediation and CocoonDance’s first application software.
For professional, semi-professional and intermediate dancers, age 18 +.
Workshop is for free, registration required. Please register at hello@hibaartproject.com
About Rafaële Giovanola & CocoonDance
CocoonDance was founded in 2000 by choreographer Rafaële Giovanola and dramaturg Rainald Endraß. Swiss-born Giovanola was a soloist in Turin before being brought to the Frankfurt Ballet by William Forsythe for the duration of eight years. After this, she worked with Pavel Mikuláštik’s Choreographisches Theater, with Bonn as the last station. Since its founding, the company has produced about forty full-length productions that have toured through five continents and been invited to showcase festivals in Germany and Switzerland like the TANZPLATTFORM DEUTSCHLAND in 2018 and 2020.
